German studio Structurelab Architects has unveiled a concept for an innovative modular marina designed for the Calanque de Sormiou, one of the largest bays in southern France.
The floating structure, named Lotus Marina, covers an area of 400 square meters and is composed of several modular units. These modules can be used as hotel rooms, commercial spaces, or open public areas. An open-air restaurant located at the water’s edge is set to become the main attraction for yachts, while the center of the complex will feature an event space and a bar.
The designers promise that environmentally friendly technologies will be used to keep the platform in place without damaging the marine ecosystem. The marina will be equipped with solar panels as well as a rainwater collection and recirculation system, helping to minimize energy and water consumption. The structures themselves will be made from recyclable materials.
Lotus Marina is designed to accommodate yachts up to 24 meters in length. According to designer Jürgen Schubert, the concept is easily scalable and can be adapted for use in other regions.
The project was first presented as an entry for the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous competition, organized by Monaco Marina Management.
