The Yacht Festival was the first yacht show in Europe to re-open its doors after the pandemic, and it should be noted that this event went especially well.
All 6 days the festival was filled with energy and enthusiasm shared by all participants, visitors, partners, service providers and organizers.
It brought together 575 exhibitors, 620 boats (including 141 world premieres) and 54,400 visitors, 50% of whom came from abroad, and came to admire the best French and international motor, sailing, monohull and multihull boats.
The number of visitors to the 2021 festival is identical to that of 2019, which was a record year. The festival has managed to successfully fit into this year’s challenging conditions and offer a wide range of brands, new products, boat types and services. Despite travel restrictions that were introduced for some countries, the festival received not only clients from Europe, but also visitors from all over the world.
The yachting festival took place on the territory of both ports of Cannes, as well as the first time, the Old Port and Port of Canto.
“Our goal was to prepare and conduct the festival in the same way as in 2019, despite COVID, in terms of the number of participants, boats and visitors. If the total number of exhibitors (-7%) and boats (-4%) slightly decreased compared to 2019, then the number of boats presented as world premieres increased by 10%, while the number of visitors remained the same. We are proud and very pleased with these results. This festival presented a real challenge at every stage of its organization.
We have continually taken into account new organizational constraints in the course of legislative changes, and we have worked closely and effectively with the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, the Sub-Prefect of Grasse and their departments, to whom I thank. The closer the opening date got, the more we felt the motivation, enthusiasm and growing impatience of our exhibitors and visitors to meet again in Cannes. The 2021 event was incredible in terms of preparation and experience, both for them and for me and my team, it was an incredible experience. 2021 will remain unforgettable in many ways ”! – concluded Sylvie Earnoult, Director of the Yacht Festival.
The port of the Old Town during this period was completely dedicated to the water transport industry with more than 480 boats from 3 to 50 meters. An entirely new space has also been created for electric or hybrid boats, with a dozen boats from Boote Marian, Candela Speed Boats, E-Sense of Blue, Ecoline, Say Carbon Yachts, Vita Yachts and X-Shore, among others. vessels and a test site (which was located outside the route of the visit), in order to facilitate test drives and make the Festival safe by reducing maritime traffic within the port.

Dream yacht exists: Custom Line 140 ‘
The new Custom Line 140 ‘will be the shipyard’s third project, with exteriors designed by Francesco Pashkovski and interiors by Margarita Casprini in collaboration with Custom Line Atelier. Designers drew inspiration from residential architecture during its creation, and many new features will be seen on board, including improved shapes and volumes.

The Custom Line 140 ‘has a gross tonnage of about 400 gross tons and will become not only the flagship of the shipyard, but also the largest yacht ever built by the brand. It will be 42.15 meters long and 8.57 meters wide. In addition, innovative technologies for lighter weight and hybrid materials will be actively used on board to maintain high performance, strength and safety.

It is also an improved displacement hull, which allows the yacht to develop high speeds, in particular, the maximum speed is declared at 21.5 knots.
Exterior
The CL 140 ‘has a sporty aesthetic, with precise lines from bow to stern. Smooth yet powerful lines clearly convey the brand’s planing yacht family. The hull portholes are generous in size, and floor-to-ceiling glazing in the cabin provides direct contact with water.

To enhance the effect of open space, the bulwarks have cutouts on both sides. Another important detail is the painted aluminum handrail with Y-pillars – it will become an elegant and functional element of the exterior design. In addition, Pashkowski has taken care of an exciting alternation of materials and colors, where light textured surfaces are replaced by dark mirrored glazing.
Main characteristics and interior
On board the three-deck yacht, the flows of guests and staff are clearly separated, and in the living area, the outer and inner spaces smoothly flow into each other. Emphasizing this approach to layout, a staircase on the port side directly connects the main deck to the sun deck via the upper deck.

At the stern, the beach by the water was created in order to offer guests special conditions for relaxation and communication. There are no service or technical areas in this part of the boat, so the space can be furnished at the request of the owner with maximum comfort. And the descent and ascent of the tender is carried out through the ramp on the left side.
On the main deck, in addition to the spacious saloon, there is a full-deck master suite with two dressing rooms and bathrooms. As an option, it is possible to equip the cabin with a panoramic terrace, which will open in order to provide the owner with an additional area in direct contact with the sea. On the lower deck there are four more cabins: three VIP and a guest room with two twin beds. On the upper deck there is a sky lounge with panoramic glazing, and the captain’s bridge is equipped with a Teamitalia dashboard.

The sundeck area on Custom Line 140 ‘is a panoramic area where you can enjoy complete privacy. There is also a relaxation area with a hot tub, free-standing furniture, and a sun deck can be protected from the sun by a bimini top.
The bow is essentially an open lounge, and the technical equipment area is gracefully integrated into the deck. An additional garage can also be placed here, which is convenient to use for placing a tender or a jet ski.

Technoligies
The Custom Line 140 ‘will be powered by a pair of 2638 hp MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines. The architects have paid maximum attention to comfort during the transitions to ensure an acoustic “peace” based on a detailed mathematical analysis of each individual noise source and its location. For example, solutions used include stabilizing systems, special materials and additional insulation between bulkheads and in ceilings. Another contribution to acoustic comfort is the installation of silent engine exhaust systems and mechanisms specially designed to absorb vibration.
The Custom Line 140 ‘, like all the latest generation of Custom Line yachts, will be certified according to IMO TIER III standards, which protect the environment in the shipbuilding industry by reducing toxic emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gases. The yacht also meets the requirements of the international MCA certification.

Oceanco and Pininfarina have teamed up to create the superyacht Kairos
The Kairos project is the result of a collaboration between renowned design studio Pininfarina and superyacht shipyard Oceanco, while Lateral Naval Architects are responsible for technical design and engineering.
The name Kairos comes from one of the ancient Greek words for time. In this case, it is a time that will be filled with opportunities, triumph and potential for the future. The Kairos project received such an ambitious name for a reason. It is focused on providing an unrestricted experience on board. That is why the E-Hybrid propulsion system will be used on board. Solar panels will become the main source of energy for the movement of the boat, as well as for powering the hotel complex.
The Kairos project is also based on Oceanco NXT’s Green Technology and Innovation Initiative. The shipyard is actively promoting sustainable yachting ideas that are likely to be the future of the superyacht industry.
“Kairos is a remarkable creation, created by three dedicated and enthusiastic partners: Pininfarina, Lateral and Oceanco,” comments Marcel Onckenhout, CEO of Oceanco. “When owners see a project from Oceanco NXT, they know they can expect a decent standard of living on board that is consistent with the new vision of sustainability.”
“Our main goal as designers is to create new yacht interior concepts that can add charm to every moment on board,” adds Paolo Pininfarina of the Pininfarina design studio.
Riva and the cinema
In the midst of the Cannes Film Festival, let’s remember the legendary Italian mahogany Riva boats that can be seen in the masterpieces of world cinema.
Welcome onboard and stock up on popcorn.

The first article is dedicated to the Italian shipyard of luxury boats Riva. Over the 178-year history of its existence, Riva has taken over the cinema, appearing in a variety of blockbusters with world-famous stars since the middle of the last century. No wonder, combining traditional style and modern technical characteristics, these boats harmoniously fit into pictures, where the director’s idea involves showing the status, taste, style and wealth of their characters. In a classic runabout, made in wooden cladding, both the sex symbol of the 40s Clark Gamble and the women idol, Chris Hemsworth, could ride with a breeze. There is an overview where you can meet variety of films where Riva has become an integral part of the movie scenes.
Le mépris (1963)

The dramatic film with the inimitable Brigitte Bordeaux in the main role tells the story of a love triangle in which the actors experience the whole spectrum of doomed and contemptuous feelings for each other. Those who don’t really like drama might be discouraged while watching the movie, but Bardo’s beauty on the Capri neutralizes any boredom. When she sits over the Riva’s board and goes deep into the Gulf of Naples, it seems that mankind will not come up with a more harmonious picture. The only sad thing is that this magic moment did not last long.
Manon 70 (1968)

Five years later the unsurpassed Catherine Deneuve entered the rivalry with Brigitte Bardot. The twists and turns of love in this French drama were as thrilling as the sea rocking the wooden Riva with seething and frothy waves of the Côte d’Azur. Although the film failed, not collecting a large box office and many rave reviews, it gave us Catherine, who cuts thru the waves on the legendary product of the elite Italian shipbuilding industry.
Deadlier than the Male (1967)

Deadlier than the Male is a British painting in a James Bond style. The main character, an imposing middle-aged man, fights two no less attractive criminals who are armed with firearms, hypodermic and paralyzing injections, skillfully placed time bombs in apartments and cigars loaded with bullets. The plot unfolds in the struggle for Saudi oil. Absolute madness combined with humor, stylish characters and beautiful landscapes will plunge the viewer into the incredible atmosphere of the mid-20th century. And, of course, there were a couple of Riva boats plying the picturesque expanses of the Ligurian Sea in northern Italy. True, due to an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances, one of them mercilessly explodes at the very end of the film, but what sacrifices you will not make for the sake of art!
For Your Eyes Only (1981)

Worth saying that Riva is not uncommon for the Bond film itself. Exclusive boats appear in different parts of the movie where James Bond was played by the inimitable Robert Moore, and later, in 1995, it meets in the “Golden Eye” with the young handsome Pierce Brosnan in the main role. And even later, Riva appears in the movie “Casino Royale”, where 007 was played by Daniel Craig. Over time the relevance of the exquisite gloss of vintage Riva only gains momentum. And the release of films about the super agent, from the 60s to the present day with its participation only confirms this.
Nikita (1990)

“Nice boat. Redwood!”, – says one of Luc Besson’s heroes, sitting on the boat in the middle of the Venetian canal. Nikita and her companion’s trip to Venice begins with Riva Ariston and it is impossible to argue that it is beautiful.
The Italian Job (2003)
The action of the first part of the Hollywood action movie “The Italian Job” takes place in Venice, the Italian capital of canoes, single-deck small boats and small cruisers. Therefore, it would be surprising if Riva never flashed and delighted the eyes of the audience. Here it happened in the stellar company of Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham and Edward Norton.
Ocean’s Twelve (2004)

Riva has been synonymous with “status” for more than a decade, and its name often flashes alongside the brands Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Cartier. It is natural that Riva Aquariva appears in the sequel to the cult Ocean’s Eleven in the episode where the action takes place on Lake Como. By the way, George Clooney, who played the main character in the film, bought the same boat for himself shortly after filming, celebrated his wedding on it and later starred in an ad for the Swiss watch brand Omega.
Killers (2010)
An easy and non-trivial plot plus a bright duet of Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, multiplied by stylish and elite places in the south of France, give us a pleasant looking picture that can brighten up a romantic or family evening. And the Aquariva plowing the open spaces of the Cote d’Azur and cutting along the coastal mountain serpentines Ferrari from the first seconds of the film make it clear that the producers did not spare the budget for the film.
Men in Black: International (2019)
A fairly fresh film, a spin-off to the already classic film about super-agents who save the planet from intergalactic terrorists and space monsters, was released two years ago. The movie got average ratings and reviews from film critics, mainly for predictable plot and mediocre direction. However, it is worth watching, if only for Chris Hemsworth, who is sailing across the sea in a brand new Riva. You can endlessly look at fire, water and how other people work. But this little episode can also be added to the list.
Ferretti Group premieres at Cannes Yachting Festival
It looks like the pandemic is on the wane or has given a little respite, so yacht shows may gradually return to offline format. The Ferretti Group has confirmed to host its annual Private Preview at the Monaco Yacht Club, and will also take part in the 43rd Cannes Yachting Festival, which will take place from 7 to 12 September 2021 on the Côte d’Azur. Several models will be presented for the first time – the Riva 68 ‘Diable and 76’ Perseo Super, Pershing 6X and Wally WHY200. Also, everyone will be able to see the Ferretti Yachts 1000, which was officially premiered a few months earlier at the Venice Boat Show in Italy. Style, innovative technology and comfort – all of which you can enjoy aboard Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Riva and Wally.
RIVA 68 ’DIABLE

It is the diamond in the open yacht range, combining dynamism, innovation and comfort. The new 20-meter model Riva 68 ‘Diable embodies design innovation and, at the same time, love for tradition and detail, which are the hallmark of the brand today. One of the memorable features is the new hardtop with an elegant design, in which all technical components are hidden from prying eyes. It protects the central part of the deck: the dining area, the kitchen and the helm. Equally impressive is the sliding structure in the hardtop, which can be opened from several sides for maximum comfort while walking. The Riva 68 ‘Diable will be powered by two 1550 hp MAN V12s. in the standard version or with a pair of 1650 hp engines as an option.

The lower deck has a classic layout. The master stateroom is located at the widest part of the deck, on the port side there is a suite with two single beds and a VIP stateroom in the bow. Each cabin has its own bathroom, and they revolve around a common versatile space with a kitchen and a small lounge.
RIVA 76 ’PERSEO SUPER
It is an innovative successor to the model of the same name, which has earned high marks in terms of design, aesthetics and ergonomics. The Riva 76 ‘Perseo Super has a length of 23.25 meters and a deck width of 5.75 meters. Glazing of the hull and superstructure with an area of more than 40 m2 make the profile even more streamlined and emphasize the sporty character of the yacht. Mahogany and polished stainless steel details, which not only have a practical function, but also serve as a decoration for the exterior – a tribute to the original tradition of Riva.

The exterior features a glass roof with an opening section, allowing the lounge to be filled with light and fresh air. In the cockpit, the dining area can be easily converted into a spacious sunbathing area if required thanks to a table mechanism that lowers on telescopic rails.

The standard layout of the lower deck of the Riva 76 ‘Perseo Super is designed to accommodate 6 guests in three en-suite cabins with a separate kitchen. The saloon is also provided in the same layout, however, a fourth cabin can be placed instead.
PERSHING 6X
The Generation X series has been replenished with another model that reflects the most daring side of the brand, namely speed. The Pershing 6X will be able to develop a maximum of 48 knots with two MAN V12s of 1550 hp each.

At 18.94 meters long and 4.8 meters wide, the Pershing 6X brings together all of the shipyard’s advanced technology in a compact form factor. The model immediately catches the eye thanks to the aerodynamic profile and extensive glazing that floods the lower deck with natural light. Also on board was a spacious sunpad aft, a carbon and teak table in the dining area and a reclining chaise longue. The first Pershing 6X hull has a layout with three guest cabins – a master suite, a VIP in the bow and a guest suite to starboard.

FERRETTI YACHTS 1000
Almost 30 meters long, the FY 1000 is not only the flagship of the shipyard, but also the first Ferretti Yachts with a hull shape similar to that of a displacement yacht. Composite materials were used for its construction, and the superstructure and hardtop are completely made of carbon. The shipyard has fundamentally changed the approach to onboard layout with unprecedented designs and interior moods.

At the heart of the FY 1000 is the idea of unrivaled comfort, both outdoors and indoors. The latter, among other things, can be performed in completely different moods. Classic interior design uses soft, balanced color tones and subtle contrasts, while modern color schemes create bolder hues.

The FY 1000 will receive a pair of 2217 hp MTU 16V 2000 M86L engines. in the standard version, and the optional motorization assumes two 2638 hp engines.
WALLY WHY200
Wally is targeting the compact superyacht segment with the 27m WHY200. The designers were able to amazingly provide guests with more than 200 m2 of indoor spaces and 144 m2 of outdoor areas. The lower deck – depending on the chosen layout – can accommodate three or four double guest cabins.

The new WHY200 stands out not only for its ergonomics, but above all for its technical characteristics. This is Wally’s first hybrid yacht optimized for sea crossings in both displacement and semi-displacement styles. Simply put, she can be both a fast yacht and move with economical fuel consumption. Thanks to its unique hull and the latest generation of powertrain, the WHY200 reaches 23 knots.

Project Crystal: 94-meter superyacht with three pools
Australian design studio Nick Stark Design has unveiled a 94-meter concept tentatively named Project Crystal. It was named after the main feature of the exterior – the “crystal lattice” that glows in the dark.

“The main idea was to create a festive and chic atmosphere in design. The lines of the superstructure tend upward and then merge with the transverse outlines, while simultaneously riveting the eye to our surroundings: to people, the community and the environment, ”says Nick Stark, studio founder and naval architect.

The superyacht has a deck width of 13 meters and a tonnage of 2500 GT, and her highlight will be a helipad on the bow deck and several swimming pools. The first is the large pool aft of the main deck, the second is the Jacuzzi on the owner’s private deck and another hydromassage pool on the sundeck. By the way, the latter has a glass bottom, which allows light to enter the owner’s lounge and creates an atrium effect in this room. There is also ample storage for tenders on board.

“A sense of privacy is at the heart of the superyacht’s design — we aimed to create a safe and relaxing space that is both visually pleasing and comfortable for those on board,” explains Stark.
In the development of Project Crystal, environmental considerations were emphasized. The yacht is equipped with variable-pitch propellers and a well-tuned hull to maximize fuel efficiency. This is combined with the latest hybrid powertrain and glazing to help make the best use of resources. In addition, the ship’s hull has been designed to optimize seaworthiness. Instead of a traditional radar ball mast, it has a sleek antenna that perfectly matches its outer lines.

Since founding the studio of the same name two decades ago, Stark has developed a number of concepts that span the spectrum from hybrid party yachts to luxury dayboats. However, Project Crystal is the most dazzling project and it looks like it might outshine others.
Riva first received a hardtop version for the Open line
In 2019 Riva Dolceriva introduced the 15-meter Open class cruiser. It was distinguished not only by its original exterior, but also by completely new planning solutions. Its timeless style has not lost its luster, and now the shipyard hopes that the new boat will expand the circle of admirers of the brand through a number of characteristics.

One of the strengths of the updated Riva Dolceriva is the ability to stop worrying about the weather. The novelty has received a hardtop that is able to protect outdoor recreation areas from the sun or rain. It is designed in such a way that the canopy fully protects the entire cockpit and helm. Also, the designers took care of the possibility of fully covering all this space with the help of transparent awnings on both sides, as well as from the bow and stern. An air conditioning system can also be installed inside to create a closed space suitable for relaxing even in hot weather.

The main body of the hardtop is made of composite materials – carbon and vinyl, which allows for light weight and durability. It also features steel inserts that not only increase the rigidity of the entire top, but also preserve the sporty character and personality of Dolceriva.
Officina Italiana Design has succeeded in laying the foundation for the modern philosophy of the Riva style. Namely, with this boat, the studio perfectly optimized the side space, but at the same time preserved the brand’s heritage with great respect and awe.

A slender line of portholes glides across the silver hull, as if someone had drawn a graceful curl to the deck with a black pencil. This fascinating stylistic decision resulted in a non-standard visual connection of the hull to the deck line. And the reverse curvature windshield has become the hallmark of Riva. The Dolceriva bow deck is finished in mahogany with twenty coats of lacquer. Among the polished mooring equipment, there is a window that floods the cabin on the lower deck with natural sunlight.

At the stern, a unique folding section system has been developed. When closed, it hides the bench, and when open, you can use the built-in mahogany steps. Behind two sun decks, separated by a central aisle, there is a cockpit with a dining area with two large sofas.
The lower deck may have a two-cabin layout with a master suite in the bow and a suite with separate berths aft. Also, the space of the standard cabin can be used as a crew cabin with its own entrance from the bathing platform or as an additional garage.

The Riva Dolceriva is powered by a V-drive with two Volvo Penta D13 engines, each with 1,000 hp. In terms of performance, the model can reach a top speed of 40 knots with a cruising speed of 35 knots. The helm station is equipped with one 12 “touchscreen and an additional 16” touchscreen with Garmin monitoring system. Seakeeper joystick and gyro stabilizer are also available upon request.

The first Dolceriva hardtop hull will be unveiled in Bridgeport on June 16 and 17 at the Steelpointe Yacht & Charter Show, where it will be possible to board and conduct sea trials.
Buying Yachts 2021: why you should preorder
In many countries, the boating season lasts between four and six months, a relatively short period. At this time, you want to enjoy your vacation on board to the maximum, using every free minute. And, as a rule, it is very annoying when precious time is wasted searching for and choosing a suitable option for a watercraft.
If you want to be able to enjoy the season, go out to sea, swim and sunbathe on a mattress on your own private island, we advise you to start your search today.
Companies panicked and feared that the entire season could be lost, as it was not completely clear what to do under the circumstances. But by the middle of summer the situation turned around exactly the opposite. Water lovers realized that a yacht is a great place for self-isolation, and just a way to relax on the weekend. Under the circumstances, this was the most reliable plan.

However, most of the yachting fleet was in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean. Some were able to rent a yacht in the Adriatic, Croatia and Montenegro, or Turkey, where the borders opened just months after the outbreak of the pandemic. Traveling to these countries was the least problematic, so a week or two with your family on board was a great alternative to any other vacation. However, not everyone was ready to take a risk: for example, getting stuck in a hotel in a foreign country, if suddenly the next restrictions come into force and the borders are closed. Therefore, the surge of interest in local water bodies has reached a new level. Many have become actively interested in where they can go from Odessa or Kiev, and what to see. And at the same time the question arose sharply: what for – after all, there will not be enough yachts for everyone.

Indeed, the closed borders intensified an unprecedented surge in yachting activity: people ran en masse to buy boats that were available in Ukraine. The warehouses of local, and not only local, dealers were empty, and the shipyards were no longer able to cope with the flow of orders. It would seem that last year consumer demand was higher than usual, and therefore the next year should have been quieter and a lull awaits it.

So what actually happens in 2021? We began to learn how to live in a pandemic and realized one important thing: we should not postpone plans on the back burner and wait for the situation to improve. Many could not really rest last year and want to catch up, so the season is expected to be hot. As a consequence, boat sales this year … have broken even greater records. Some yachting enthusiasts got their bearings in time, and began to prepare since last year – having made an early pre-order, they will receive their “sleigh” this summer. The rest, unfortunately, will be left without a boat, because for this season it is almost impossible to buy anything. Unless, a single second-hand, which is not a fact that is right for you. Even then, a similar rule comes into play: the sooner you make a deal, the more time you have left to get the ship ready for the 2021 season.

For new models of Ferretti Yachts, Custom Line, Riva, Pershing, Wally and Itama, pre-orders are accepted from the beginning of the year with delivery in 2022, but the bestsellers are almost completely sold out, and deliveries to customers will begin no earlier than 2023! Draw your own conclusions, and most importantly – pre-order so as not to miss the next season!
